They have a loose organization, primarily based on sharing information with each other. A hacker named, "Kelvin Zero" seems to be their leader, mostly by virtue of having hacked a number of DOD web sites. I don't think they know much about the military. They seem to think that there is something special about getting into a military computer. I've seen enough of the Navy and Marines to know that there's nothing special there.
The real action is private industry. I'd much rather know Disney's secrets than the Pentagon's. If you know where Disney is buying land right now, and what name they are buying it under, you can make some serious money. Legally. Or if you know which startup Microsoft is going to buy next. Or if you know how Standard Oil's revenues are shaping up this quarter.
I don't think the members of GAD are averse to making money from their skills. They just don't know how.
All they need is a good manager with a good plan.
