I've been fired.
Some junior systems analyst finally noticed that I was running the crack program on their machines. The damned program is too big. I had to run it on a bunch of machines to get results in a reasonable amount of time. So Junior reported me to the VP. They didn't mess with the police or FBI, they just reported me directly to the Military Police. The MPs cancelled my security clearance right on the spot. No trial, no appeal. No fuss, no muss. Those Nazi bastards can revoke anyone's security clearance any time they feel like it. They don't even have to tell you why; they just say that the reason for revoking the clearance is top secret and you don't have a security clearance any more. Joseph Heller knew whereof he wrote in Catch 22.
With no security clearance, SRG told me that they had no more use for me so I was history. That's just their excuse, though. They have been looking for an excuse to get me out of here for months. My work history was too good for them to touch me until they had an excuse. I would have sued their asses right off for wrongful dismissal. But, as soon as the MP's told them that my clearance was revoked, they had the ammunition that they needed to shoot me down. The heartless bastards wrote a check for two weeks salary, hovered over me, watching my every move while I packed my office, and escorted me off the premises. They invited me to never come back.
No farewell luncheon. No gold watch.
But I got something from them, anyway. Before they caught up with me, I sniffed the root account on the SRG firewall. Nyte Phyter and my other buddies on the Net helped me set up a back door into their whole intranet.
I still have my sniffer running on their firewall and I'm getting login records from all the branch offices around the world.
Even though they threw my ass out of one building in California, all of SGR is wide open to me.
And now I've got a ton of time on my hands.
Yee-haw!
