You probably know all about them already, but they are new to me. You type messages to other people and they type messages back. Right away, in real time. It's just like talking on the telephone, except you have to type. And you are in a conversation with a group of people. And you don't know who you are going to be talking with before you start. Pretty wild.
I copied part of one of my first sessions so you can see what I am talking about (I'm "Kev"):

SKUZEE: What's up, dude?
KEV: I'm new here. SKUZEE: Welcome, Kev. Where are you from? KEV: San Diego. What about you? HUNYBUNS: Fresno. How old are you Kev? SKUZEE: Berlin. Germany. KEV: I'm just over forty. HUNYBUNS: I'm thirty-five, but most people think I'm under thirty. SKUZEE: I like older women. KEV: How old are you, Skuzee? HUNYBUNS: What do you like, Kev? SKUZEE: Twenty-nine. KEV: I like my wife and my job. But my wife more. HUNYBUNS: I bet you'd like me, too. KEV: I'm sure that I would. SKUZEE: Me, too. HUNYBUNS: Are you logged in at home? KEV: No, at work. I am on my lunch break right now. HUNYBUNS: Me, too. We should log in together in the evening sometime when we have more time. SKUZEE: Oops, the bell just rang. I gotta go, dudz. Later. (SKUZEE leaves the room). KEV: Sure. |
You can meet a lot of interesting people this way. Hunybuns mentioned another kind of chat room called a "private chat room." She said that she would tell me more about them tomorrow night.
There is more to this Internet than I realized.
